Fraser
Reach becomes Graham Reach when heading south from Butedale and has several inlets leading off the main channel. As we continued south along Graham Reach and came upon the entrance to Khutze Inlet, we saw whales slapping their fins
and breaching not far from our boat.
We stopped to watch the spectacle, a real show performed by mom and her calf; the captured photos demonstrate some of their antics.
After this fabulous show, we continued on, reaching the south end of
Graham Reach where it splits apart as Tolmie Channel and Finlayson
Channel.
We soon passed the interesting
and pretty Boat Bluff Lighthouse on Sarah Island which creates the division between Tolmie
and Finlayson Channels. Continuing down
Tolmie Channel, we stopped briefly at the Native village of Klemtu for a few
grocery items, helping support the local economy and checking to see if there
had been any new improvements to the public dock. Not finding anything new, we crossed Finlayson
Channel at another intersection and entered the narrow passage way of Jackson
Pass which then connects up with Mathieson Channel.
The Northern British Columbia Coast is without a doubt, a very complex labyrinth of channels, inlets, and sounds.
At the east-end of Jackson Pass, we pulled
into Rescue Cove, a lovely peaceful anchorage in which to spend the night.
